Civil war soldiers, prohibition era barkeeps, and a few name-brand charterers hit the stage during the third annual NYC Beard and Mustache Competition at the Warsaw in Greenpoint, New York.
One fan passed judgment saying, “That’s the most metal thing ever.” He wasn’t referring to the pools of fake blood, or the vivisections of Christ and Hitler. He was referring to the arrival of the FDNY after GWAR’s set.
Janelle Monae capped off the second day of the festival for the concrete half of the park. Her Red Stage grounds included the FreeCycle BMX quarter-pipe, the skate park, and most of the other interesting parts of the festival.
By the end of the Unstoppable Death Machines’ show the crowd in the mosh pit had been whirling and flailing for almost an hour. Then one shirtless mosher jumped on the back of another and this happened:
